When I think about my first day at a new school, my mind immediately goes to my university. The university is located in a city that has been devastated by the cement industry, which has made the city pretty awful. However, my experience on my first day at the university was even worse due to the strong winds that the city is plagued with all year round. I vividly remember my first day there.
It's a winter. Heavy snow and black ash filled the sky, making it difficult for people to move around. Even those who tried to brave the elements with umbrellas were unsuccessful as the wind was too strong, turning the umbrellas along with plastic bags and bottles into ghosts that hovered over the city. The noise was unbearable, with windows rattling and freshmen shouting loudly. It felt like being in a disaster movie.
Adding to the chaos, the air was extremely polluted. After the snow stopped, garbage covered the ground and the once white snow was coated with a layer of black matter. The polluted air was so thick that it was difficult to see anything through the windows, as if they were covered with cement.
Thankfully, things have improved since then. The government has implemented environmental controls and people's awareness of the environment has also increased. The city's industrial pollution has been well managed, and nowadays it's rare to see people throwing garbage bags and bottles all over the floor. Although the air quality is still not perfect, it has significantly improved and the city is moving in the right direction.
