Have you ever heard of the phrase fish out of water? Well, that's exactly how I feel whenever I'm near water, especially deep water. But there's one water sport that intrigues me, diving. And not diving into the internet, but diving into the actual water with an oxygen tank. The reason I find diving less scary than other water sports is simple. I can breathe underwater. I mean, how cool is that? But my interest in diving goes beyond just breathing underwater.
I've been watching a lot of videos of youtubers who dive for different reasons, like coral reef restoration and whale watching. One of the youtubers I follow is involved in coral reef conservation and watching her plant corals in the water is like watching someone plant flowers in a garden, only underwater. She ties small pieces of coral to shelves and digs holes in the ground to plant corals in them. It's like a water based gardening activity and I'm fascinated by it. Think about it, you don't have to water the coral every day and you get to swim with the fish and other sea creatures. It's like a dream come true for me. Another youtuber I follow dives to see whales up close. And the way he describes his experiences of swimming past these gentle giants is something I can't even imagine.
Unfortunately, as much as I want to experience these activities myself, my fear of water and severe motion sickness hold me back. But if I ever get the chance to overcome these fears, I would love to try diving and experience the beauty of the underwater world myself. Who knows? Maybe I'll even get to plant some coral and help with conservation efforts.
